Visitor's Guide

Johann Wolfgang Goethe was born here on 28th August 1749 "when the clock struck twelve", and grew up here with his sister Cornelia. Discover the house where Goethe was born, floor by floor. In the exhibition on the 3rd floor, you will also find a chronicle of the house and its inhabitants.

Goethe's House and Goethe Museum: Monday to Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Sundays and holidays from 10 a.m. to 5.30 p.m.
Closed on several dates throughout the year
Library: Monday to Friday from 10 to 12 a.m. and from 1 to 4 p.m.

The Main Tower on the Neue Mainzer Straße with its height of approximately 200 m, is only Frankfurt's 4th tallest skyscraper, yet it has two unique highlights to offer, which are as yet unparalleled: it is the first skyscraper that is accessible to the public (with viewing platform and restaurant) and it is home to Europe's highest radio and television studio. On the 53rd floor, you can enjoy a meal in Frankfurt's highest restaurant (52 seats and 30 bar stools)

Founded in 1858, the zoo with its exotarium and nocturnal animal house is one of the most important in Europe. Around 500 animal species from all over the world can be seen at the zoo in the centre of the city. Visitors can relax 365 days a year. Entertainment and information about the animals as well as nature and species conservation.

The moving image fascinates and inspires today as it did then. Embark on a knowledge and experience-orientated journey of discovery through the history of film and learn more about the creation and development of this medium. The wide range of interactive stations, exciting exhibits and models invite visitors to explore the world of film.

2 to 5 August 2024

The Mainfest starts on Friday with live music on the Römerberg. A representative of the city council will open the festival from the Fountain of Justice on the Römerberg, which has been converted into a wine fountain. The classic folk festival also appeals to children and young people with children's carousels, fairground rides, games, raffles and shooting galleries, making it the only city centre festival for the whole family. The traditional highlight, a firework display of superlatives, closes the festival on the following Monday.

Frankfurt's spectacular festival of arts and culture
Every year, the city of Frankfurt pays tribute to the museums along the river with the Museum Embankment Festival (Museumsuferfest), on the last weekend of August. It is one of the largest and most spectacular arts and culture festivals in Europe.

6th to 22nd September 2024

The Dippemess Fair on the Festplatz am Ratsweg is the number one funfair in the Rhine-Main region. Nowhere are there higher visitor numbers. From the main Festival Marquee to exciting rides and catering stalls, there are offerings for all the family. The autumn fair is aimed at visitors who prefer a cosy and convivial atmosphere to grandiose spectacle.

25th November to 22nd December 2024

At the historic Römer, the Christmas tree twinkling with thousands of lights, lovingly decorated stalls and Christmas-scented delicacies create a unique Christmas atmosphere.
